words for you...

Rather than words
comes a thing thought of high windows:
The sun-comprehending glass

and the shadows nodding falling through

utility in poison?

There are estimated to be 5.6 trillion cigarette butts thrown away each year.  Should something useful even be done with them? Or should something so terrible, go without any support or encouragement for "good"? This group from the Seoul National University, who think if not beauty in trash, then at least some utility. Read more here!

things and things...

I am headed to Brooklyn this weekend and cannot want to get back to a place that feels like home. Beacon feels like home too, but a new home.  Brooklyn, being there for so long feels like part of me. I can wait to spend the money that I will spend though.  Since moving, I realize how much not only did I spend on rent  but on every day things.  Constantly surrounded by good food, pretty objects and perfectly curated stores - every day was a challenge.  Anyway!  I hope you have a good weekend and give yourself a gift.  X

So I am pretty obsessed with Woman's Hour right now this among other songs I just can't stop listening too!  Also their vids are just perfect.

One of my goals living in the Hudson valley is to cook more.  That is, I cook all the time but the same things, the same six tricks.  So I have been picking one to two recipes a week and getting my kitchen dirty with goodness! I made this really refreshing peach and tomato salad last night.  So easy, so good!

What a beautiful installation piece artist Anne Patterson created where early 20 miles of colorful ribbons are suspended from the ceiling of San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral.  Sigh...
the world has so much potential for inspiration.

I'll take em, thanks!

If you are in the mood to be moved and fall in love with words and voice, listen to "A Wild Love for the World", an On Being podcast.  I am not necessarily god centric in any way, but these words are just so beautiful.  Listen and feel human:

Quiet friend who has come so far,
feel how your breathing makes more space around you.
Let this darkness be a bell tower
and you the bell. As you ring,
what batters you becomes your strength.
Move back and forth into the change.
What is it like, such intensity of pain?
If the drink is bitter, turn yourself to wine.
In this uncontainable night,
be the mystery at the crossroads of your senses,
the meaning discovered there.
And if the world has ceased to hear you,
say to the silent earth: I flow.
To the rushing water, speak: I am.

words for you...

in the park
the railing
(the barrier between durable surfaces)
takes small breaths

night escapes between the leaves
onto the bark
whispering small syllables

a foggy gloss
moistures your eyes
even the flat malted sky without sign of clouds
pulsates with red heartbeats

it is not to dissimilar to the physical reality
or body to decipher from birth

just a slight buzz
the vibration of a silent hum

encapsulates the body.

Art for you...

I love the work of Emilie Clark.  These pieces have such roots in nature and femininity and I am such a fan of watercolor when done "right." Just beautiful.

If I were a...

Tuesday now and dreaming of Cape Cod, sitting in my home with the rain outside. I could not have felt more cozy and safe.  There is something so wonderful about the rain when you are home on a saturday. It almost forces us to nurture ourselves. Today, I would go right back to that moment (with a few dream accessories of course!)

1. These linens look so soft and perfect. I want to just float into them and stay there forever.
2. Wearing something cute of course!
3. I am a huge fan of almond oil.  It leaves the skin soft, smelling just amazing and not as oily as coconut oil.
4. These two of course cuddling right next to me (and my own cats duh). Gahh one day I will have a bunny!
5. Reading Murakami's 1Q84 (which I just bought).

an object for you...

How beautiful are these mirrors? That's all.

innovative thinking...

It's public projects like this one in Istanbul that really make clear how innovative some places are and how behind others are (like many of our own systems).  A Turkish company made a machine that releases food and water for the city's stray dogs in exchange for recycled plastic bottles. How BRILLIANT!  Really touches my heart strings.

Some things and things...

Ben and I are off to the Cape for a long weekend. I CANNOT wait to float in the pool, and lay in the sand and eat lots and lots of fried things!

Have you tried St. Germain before?  I never really knew much about the drink before some friends told me it was going to me the theme ingredient at their wedding. Now, I can't get enough!  Simply mix with gin and tonic and oh my, delish!

So it's 2014... any opinions on if this dress is too "white" to wear to a wedding!?!?!

When I was in Mexico last year I had the most wonderful, best, delicious pickled radishes of my life!  I have tried a few times to replicate, no deal.  I think I will give this one a go!

I really want to see this Jonathan Demme film, A Master Builder. It just has that perfect feel of
odd, sad and beautiful.

I lost my wallet! Or I can't find it, ek!  What about this colorful one?

How cools is a Library full of tools!  Check out this Portland, ME project and
donate or simply get inspired!  There are many tools I would never invest in, but there are times, especially with all these amazing DYI's out there, that this project would really help.

Finally, this weeks report on how the earth, moon, sun and tides
affect your day.
